CASE STUDY

BANK ATMs

BRIEF

Mugo responded to an RFP (request for proposal) from the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, requesting a redesign for the ATMs around Addis Ababa. Our concept was selected for its sensitivity to maintaining the legacy of the historic bank, and providing users with a more trustworthy encounter

HIGHLIGHTS

Through extensive research—identifying the gaps in user experience with the ATMs currently dispersed across the city—we developed a cohesive design that would bridge the gap between the user and the bank.

CHALLENGE

Upon further research, we found that the ATMs currently dispersed across the city were not durable: they didn’t evoke a sense of safety; the signage/decals would fade and peel; the machines are exposed to sunlight; and they did not have secure disposal bins in their proximity.

STRATEGY

Informed by our findings, we mitigated the challenges in user experience by designing ATMs that were safer and long-lasting. No more finicky decals or open facing monitors and buttons.
